Bhopal: A fire broke out in the C-14 coach of Vande Bharat train going from Bhopal's Rani Kamlapati to Nizamuddin near Sagar's Bina station on Monday morning.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started from the battery compartment, causing panic among the passengers on board.
Train number 20171 Bhopal-Hazrat Nizamuddin Vande Bharat started its journey at 5:40 am on Monday.
The fire broke out around Kurwai Kethora even before reaching Bina Railway Station. Around 36 passengers were present in the affected coach at the time of the incident.
The train was stopped at Kurwai Kethora around 7:10 am and all the passengers were evacuated without any injury. The local fire brigade team reached the spot and doused the fire.
Many prominent people including Congress leader Ajay Singh were aboard that train.
After the incident, the entire train was evacuated as a precautionary measure. Local villagers living near Kurwai Kethora also assisted the fire brigade team in dousing the fire.
Passengers who experienced the incident told that when the sound of fire came, there was chaos.
Sharing his account, one of the passengers who boarded the coach said, "I heard a sound of fire from under my seat in the C-14 coach. Everyone ran to safety. When the train stopped, I saw that the battery box was on fire. On informing the guard, we all got down with our belongings". He was going from Bhopal to Delhi.
Another passenger said that he was going from Rani Kamlapati to Gwalior when smoke quickly filled both sides of the coach near Kurwai. He told local media that the train was stopped and all passengers were evacuated safely.
The Rani Kamlapati-Nizamuddin route serves as the inaugural Vande Bharat train of Madhya Pradesh. It was inaugurated four months ago on April 1 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The train initially made its maiden journey up to Agra. Official operations began on 2 April, with services available from Nizamuddin to Rani Kamalapati. On 3 April, the train made its return journey from Kamalapati to Nizamuddin. news agency ANI Indian Railways
He was quoted as saying that soon the fire brigade reached the spot and doused the fire. Railway told that all the passengers are safe. And there are no reports of any injuries.
"The fire was confined to the battery box only and the fire has been extinguished. The battery box is located in the undergear relatively far from the passenger area. As soon as the incident happened, the electrical protection systems isolated the batteries. The fire was extinguished and the bad batteries removed Gave in. Ready to proceed,” said the Railways.
